Happy Easter and a Happy April to all our followers !
A special April Fools Post 2024
The photograph here shows Heer Soldaten posing for a comedic photograph in March 1941. 5 Heer soldaten are seen here wearing a mixture of feldgrau jumpers and M36 Tunics. The Heer Soldaten are seen posing for a comedic photograph that shows the progression of using a toilet. As seen written on the reverse this photograph is titled "Großaufnahme vom Soldaten Klo" which translates as "Close-up of the soldier's toilet". This showing the evolution of the process of using the toilet. From right to left showing a laughing and squatting soldat, slowly showing progress until the Soldat on the furthest left is seen standing up fully. The Photograph being taken in "März 41" (March 1941) as the reverse also details.
The Soldaten seen posing for this comedic photograph, hang their belt and webbing and in some cases even their tunics over the door. The bayonets can be seen hanging off the belts that are across the doors. These are apart of the standard belt order for those on guard or in duty. Also seen in wear is a slip on some of the shoulder boards, sadly it is not known what the number is or what branch of the Heer these soldaten are.
The Soldaten are seen enjoying themselves in this comedic photograph. These comedic photographs were common, as was the types of jokes that were depicted in them. These comedic photographs helped raise morale and friendship among fellow soldaten and allowed for the bond between them to grow stronger. These types of photographs occuring in barracks, in unit compounds (as suggested here due to lack of awards) and sometimes in the field where possible. These photographs allowed for the Soldaten in them to reflect on them when in low moment or in the field away from home. At times when morale was low they could reflect on these happier and joyful times. In addition to this, being pride of place in family photo albums as a memory of their service in training or during a specific campaign.
